چکیده

PURPOSE In order to eventually develop an analytical algorithm with noise characteristics of an iterative algorithm, this technical note develops a window function for the filtered backprojection (FBP) algorithm in tomography that behaves as an iterative Landweber algorithm. METHODS Based on the formulation of the iterative Landweber algorithm, a frequency domain window function is derived for each iteration of the Landweber algorithm. The resultant window function has an index k, emulating the characteristics of the Landweber algorithm at the kth iteration. The window function is used to modify the ramp filter in the FBP algorithm. RESULTS Computer simulations show that the windowed FBP algorithm with window function index k and the iterative Landweber algorithm iteration number k give similar reconstructions in terms of resolution and noise. CONCLUSIONS Analytical FBP algorithms are able to provide similar results to the iterative Landweber algorithm if the ramp filter in the FBP algorithm is modified by a set of specially designed window functions.

A filtered backprojection MAP algorithm with nonuniform sampling and noise modeling.

PURPOSE The goal of this paper is to extend our recently developed FBP (filtered backprojection) algorithm, which has the same characteristics of an iterative Landweber algorithm, to an FBP algorithm with the same characteristics of an iterative MAP (maximum a posteriori) algorithm. The newly developed FBP algorithm also works when the angular sampling interval is not uniform. The projection no...

A Local and Iterative Neural Reconstruction Algorithm for Cone-Beam Data

This work presents a new neural algorithm designed for the reconstruction of tomographic images from Cone Beam data. The algorithm is iterative and based on a set of neural networks that are working locally and sequentially. The algorithm was compared with the iterative ART algorithm and the filtered backprojection (FBP) method. The results show how the proposed algorithm is much more accurate ...

Comparison of a noise-weighted filtered backprojection algorithm with the Standard MLEM algorithm for poisson noise.

Iterative maximum-likelihood expectation maximization and ordered-subset expectation maximization algorithms are excellent for image reconstruction and usually provide better images than filtered backprojection (FBP). Recently, an FBP algorithm able to incorporate noise weighting during reconstruction was developed. This paper compares the performance of the noise-weighted FBP algorithm and the...

Iterative total-variation reconstruction versus weighted filtered-backprojection reconstruction with edge-preserving filtering.

Iterative image reconstruction with the total-variation (TV) constraint has become an active research area in recent years, especially in x-ray CT and MRI. Based on Green's one-step-late algorithm, this paper develops a transmission noise weighted iterative algorithm with a TV prior. This paper compares the reconstructions from this iterative TV algorithm with reconstructions from our previousl...
